French and Indian War 1.King Phillip’s War a. Settlers were in conflict with Native Americans over their land b. Metacom was the Wampanoag leader who led 1 year of battle before he was killed c. His goal was to force the English out of New England d. Metacom was killed and the English won, controlling most of New England 2.Colonists continue moving westward past the Appalachian Mountains into the Ohio Valley a. The French had already claimed part of this land 3. Washington decides to try to capture Fort Duquesne since the French refused to leave the Ohio River area.

1.The French and Indian War a. Washington was defeated in several small battles and their soliders returned to VA b. This led to a long war called the French and Indian War 1754 c. Britain fought against the French and their Indian allies d. Britain asked the Iroquois League to help but they refused. e. Britain is losing at this point. f. Britain sends troops and the Iroquois decided to help. g. Britain wins and the war ends in (9 years) 2.Pontiac’s Rebellion a. Was a Native leader who was angry about British settlement b. Led an attack called Pontiac’s Rebellion against settlers c. King George III then issued Proclamation of 1763 forbidding settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains d. Colonists upset at British government about the proclamation.
