KINDY WORLD We visited two kindergartens in Solomon Islands

Can you spot two differences from your classroom?

This is the head teacher Dorothy helping.

Do you have a courtyard like this to play in?

The red uniforms are made upstairs by young workers.

What action songs do you know?

‘The Nativity’ is about baby Jesus. Do you know that story?

Can you dance to the beat of the log drum?

What is this?

When do you say classroom prayers?

Play time. Do you have a field like this?

Two teachers and Fr Stephen are happy to show us around.

The resource room

The teachers’ room

What else did you notice about these kindergartens?

What if... ? There was no teacher at school... Are there things you learn that depend on a teacher? The teachers had no training. Would you learn much? There were no computers in class... How would that change the way you learn things?

Caritas works as a partner in Solomon Islands. Caritas is helping to pay for training some teachers at the kindergartens. You can help us too by sending us your Lent donations. Tagiu tumas! Thank you very much

Photos by: Adrian Heke Nick Borthwick Philip Gibbs Thanks to the teachers and children at St Peter’s Gizo and St Eusebius Kindergarten, Noro, in the diocese of Gizo for being willing to have their pictures taken for our story.
