HMYOI Glen Parva O Holds up to 808, year old men in Leicestershire O Closed prison O Service is based within the secondary mental health team O Remand and sentenced prisoners

Emerging Personality Difficulties O High level: O self harm O impulsive behaviours O aggression and violence

Audit O Completed for cases between receiving support and interventions for experiencing traumatic events O N= 42, O 56% of individuals presenting to therapy for trauma related difficulties (total sample = 75).

Types of trauma

In therapy O Young men grasp psycho-education quickly O Once distress is reduced they can disengage from therapy O Grounding techniques are well received and alleviates symptoms

Consequences O As a result of these problems individuals often develop problems in relation to: O Substance misuse O High levels of paranoia in relation to anxiety O Dissociation O High levels of impulsive aggression

Adaptations O Difficult to tolerate an hour O Longer sessions on psycho-education O Good time to intervene before behaviours become ingrained and maladaptive O Practice grounding techniques in session

Challenges and barriers to change O High level of uncertainty and fear leads to increased violence O Difficult to challenge in environment where bullying and aggression dominate O Thus activating reminders of early experiences of violence
