Starting with reasons NOT to use it… Expensive: burden on parents Time wasting Not all pupils have computer at home Distraction: Pupils won’t focus on content Pupils will do inappropriate things with it! Dangers that lurk in cyber space … What if if breaks down? What if they know more than me?  Steep learning curve for a teacher Not on the exam… 3

Why it might be worth the effort… Motivating … More engaging than the text book… Help them understand better the tools that they already use (social media) Creative potential …(expression) Relevance to their lives and future Cognitive skills development… Multi-media – multiple intelligences… 4

What is Moodle …? E-learning environment to access resources and online activities for your course when your are not in class. Login from anywhere you can access the web and via an App for iPhone/iPod & Android (MyMoodle) Requires your NUIM student login details (once you register). – Username = your student number – Password is a combination of three letters and four numbers. lower- case (no capital letters) and don’t confuse letters for numbers (e.g. letter L for number one, or letter O for zero).
