Community Priorities Warwickshire Police is obliged to protect communities from harm in line with the ‘Police Priorities’. This may mean that in exceptional circumstances SNT officers may be required to work on other policing priorities. If this happens there will be a need to re-negotiate priorities. This will be done in liaison with the Chair and the panel.

Community Priorities from Thursday 12 th September 2013 Burglary patrols/vehicle crime in the Henley & Studley areas, including the surrounding villages Speeding on Littlewood Green, Studley Speeding on Sambourne Lane, Sambourne

Burglary patrols/vehicle crime in the Henley & Studley areas, including the surrounding villages (Commitment to conduct 20 speed checks) 121 patrols complete by SNT, OPU & Patrol Numerous persons/vehicles stopped and checked, including use of ANPR 5 person arrested on two separate occasions on suspicion of oil thefts, 3 released on bail and 2 remanded in custody awaiting trial. Unknown person/s disturbed by officers at Studley Golf Driving Range – preventing a burglary. Following and burglary in Studley a male was arrested and bailed with enquiries ongoing. Following a burglary in Earlswood a male was arrested and remanded in custody.

Speeding on Littlewood Green, Studley (Commitment to conduct 10 additional targeted patrols) 10 speed checks conducted at varying times and points on Littlewood Green, Studley. Top speed recorded was 38 mph. 297 vehicles passed through, 2 motorists captured contravening the 30mph speed restriction. Speeding motorists dealt with by way of fixed penalty notices and road side cautions.

Speeding on Sambourne, Sambourne (Commitment to conduct 10 speed checks) 10 speed checks conducted at varying times and points on Sambourne Lane, Sambourne Top speed recorded was 41 mph. 356 vehicles passed through, 17 motorists captured contravening the 30mph speed restriction. Speeding motorists dealt with by way of fixed penalty notices and road side cautions.

Other matters of interest: 5 people have been arrested on suspicion of the theft of heating oil. A male acting suspiciously in the Tanworth in Arden was stopped and checked by police. It was found that he was wanted by West Midland Police. A male from Stratford was officially spoken to regarding an incident of Criminal Damage in Claverdon. The male is now due to take part in Restorative Justice. The Team attended two assemblies at Henley School and gave a talk about social networking and online safety to year 9 and 10 pupils. Oil Tank Crime Prevention Advice Siting Your Oil Tank - The position of the tank can have a significant effect on how hard a target it is in the eyes of the thief. Control Switches - Control switches that control the flow of oil should be turned off and the electricity supply isolated when the tank is not in use. Padlocks - A thief will usually come equipped with a limited range of tools to attack your tank so it's worth spending a little more on good quality locks. Good neighbour scheme - If possible, work with your neighbours and have the heating oil delivered at the same time. This will allow you to be more vigilant outside of the oil delivery date and some heating oil companies offer a cheaper rate in these circumstances. Oil Level Gauges - Remote electronic oil level gauges are now available which will set off an audible alarm if the oil level in the tank suddenly drops or falls below a quarter full. These gauges can be located in the kitchen or perhaps a utility room to warn of any potential problem.

Security Lights - Security lights can have a very positive effect and make any property a much harder target for the thief. Defensive Planting - Defensive planting is nature's way of helping to reduce crime. Thieves will not wish to force their way through or over a prickly hedge. The smallest trace of blood or shred of ripped clothing could help the police identify the offender. These shrubs can, if planted around your tank, provide an effective and decorative thief proof barrier. Securing Your Oil Tank - Following on from the defensive plant tactic, fences and walls can also make life difficult for the thief. A wooden or metal fence, trellis or wall can give significant protection to the tank, but it must be remembered that the oil tanker driver will need access to fill the tank! A metal or grill cage with a lockable access point across the top of this wall or fence can further improve security. The wall or fence should be as close to the tank and as high as possible. CCTV - The use of CCTV as crime prevention and a crime detection tool has grown massively in recent years. Additional Advice OFTEC or the 'Oil Firing Technical Association for the petroleum industry' or by calling Remember be vigilant and report any suspicious activity including registration numbers of suspicious vehicles to the Police on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
