Wayne County Public Schools Technology Usage and Policies

Policy Code: 3224 AKA “Employee Technology Acceptable Use Policy”

Acceptable Use All internet and usage must be work- appropriate No games, shopping, or installing extraneous software You can only install software/hardware with permission Training opportunities are provided by WCPS Pay attention to copyright laws. Anything you do on these computers is a matter of public record.

Use for professional communication only. Don’t junk up the system. Keep signatures short. Keep your s clean. Never open suspicious s or attachments. Please don’t forward chain letters or spam. All is subject to state law, and may be monitored.

Network Etiquette Be nice. Don’t reveal personal information of others. Don’t hog up the bandwidth. Don’t state your opinion as that of WCPS. Only the superintendent is allowed to do that. You are a role model. Please act accordingly.

Security Report security problems to your technology mentor. Don’t give out your password. Bad things can happen. It is up to you to keep your computer updated. Subs and students cannot use NC WISE computers.

Vandalism / Harassment Vandalism pertains to damaging hardware, software, or the network. Harassment includes persistent annoyance of a user or interfering in another’s work.

Penalties You can lose network/internet use. You can be disciplined by the district. Termination is possible. If a criminal offense occurs, there may be legal consequences. Ignorance is no excuse. Final determination resides with the administration.

AR 3224 NC WISE Rules and Regulations

NC WISE Rules and Regs Only authorized personnel can use the NC WISE program. Teachers are responsible for recording data. No one else. Three strikes and you’re out.

NC WISE Rules and Regs You should create a password/passphrase that you will only use with NC WISE. Passwords have an 8 character minimum. They must begin with a letter, and have 2 other characters (0-9, _, #, $, etc.). Passwords change every 90 days and cannot be reused. Never give your password to anyone. Or stick it on your monitor. Or under the keyboard.

NC WISE Rules and Regs Lock the NC WISE program before you leave the room. Report any suspicious activity. You can use the program at home, but you will be held responsible. Please use NC WISE on a clean computer.
