Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Purpose A SLAT is used when teaching the concept of cause and effect. A battery operated device or toy is able to be activated for a specific amount of time via a switch.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Additional Instructions The SLAT only controls the electrical flow to the device. Therefore, you must make sure the battery operated device is turned ON This may mean that you need to tape down the “ON” button on the device depending on how it functions
Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Implementation The student activates the switch Staff members verbally reinforce the understanding that the device has been activated by the switch Staff members discourage additional switch activation prior to the device turning off
Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Implementation If needed, staff members verbally inform the student that the device has turned off and needs to be reactivated The student turns the device back on by activating a switch

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 Modes Timed Seconds Mode Runs appliances from 1 to 60 seconds with each switch activation This mode is felt to be the best mode to use when teaching the concept of cause and effect
