Focus: What does a good study environment look like?

Study Environment Quiz Rubric Count up the number of statements that you labeled true. Write that number on the paper. 7-8: You have strong study skills. 5-6 You’re on the right track! 4 or less: Time for a study skills overhaul!

Study Environment Video Write down at least 3 things that the video suggests you do to create a study environment.

Which environment is better? Jason is ready to study. He sits in a soft chair in the living room. The glow of the TV lights his history book. His sister is watching a science fiction movie. Jason puts on stereo headphones to block the TV noise. When it’s time to answer questions, Jason looks around for a pen and paper. Lynn is ready to study. She carries a glass of water to her room. She closes her door and turns on the light over the table. She takes a dictionary, a pen, and some paper from a shelf. Today, Lynn will read a history chapter and answer questions. She checks her watch. It is 4:30 P.M., an hour before dinner.

Discuss with a partner Identify the best learning environment. List features of the better environment.

Homework Choice A: Evaluate your study area with the survey. Then list ways in which you could improve your own study environment. Choice B: Design the ideal homework station. What would it look it? What features would it include? Either create an illustration or a written description.
