FUNDAMENTAL THEORIES OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION Lecture 4 PERSONAL PERCEPTIONS WITHIN CULTURE

PERSONAL PERCEPTIONS WITHIN CULTURE Uncertainty and Anxiety Uncertainty is a state of being unsure of something, unsettled or in doubt or dependent on chance in unstructured situations. Uncertainty causes anxiety – a diffuse state of being uneasy or worried about what may happen.

PERSONAL PERCEPTIONS WITHIN CULTURE Attitude Attitude is the psychological state or quite stable opinion regarding a person, object, or activity, which influences obvious behavior and misinterprets perception in predisposed ways.

PERSONAL PERCEPTIONS WITHIN CULTURE Ethnocentrism Ethnocentrism is the predisposition to view the world mainly from the perspective of one’s own culture. Ethnic identity is the sameness of a band or nation of people who share common customs, traditions, historical experiences, and in some instances geographical residence.
