Revitalization of FP/BS using HTSP in Pakistan FP-MNCH Best Practices in the Asia and the Middle East (AME) Bangkok 7-11 March, 2010 March 9, 2010

POTENTIAL IMPACT OF ADOPTING HTSP GUIDELINES IN PAKISTAN

Clear evidence that longer Birth Intervals Reduce Infant and Neonatal Mortality Infant/child Mortality can be reduced by as much as 50% and PDHS

Higher Neonatal and Post-Neonatal Mortality for Teenaged Mothers and PDHS Infant/Child mortality can be reduced by nearly 40% by delaying age at child birth

Maternal Mortality Ratio by Age Source: Pakistan Demographic and Health Surveys, and Maternal Mortality can drop dramatically by reducing number of pregnancies after 35

What Has been Accomplished so far

Progress to date  HTSP guidelines and targets established as program objectives under the draft national population policy of GoP-2010  The National Standards for Family Planning Services Manual Revised by the MOPW to include HTSP guidelines  A compendium of Quranic verses, Hadith and Fatawa developed to promote accurate knowledge about Islam regarding birth spacing among Religious Leaders
