Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School Envision Parents in Action Member Meeting Thursday, September 13, 2014, 6:30-7:30 PM

Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School Agenda  Welcome and Officer Introductions  First Year Goals  Voting – Committee Chairs, Bylaws  Treasurer Report  Fundraising Strategy  Design Challenge Fair  Communicating Ideas  Committee Sign-Ups

Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School First Year Goals  Lay foundation (bylaws, committees, 501(c)3 status, etc.)  Build bank account to fund future priorities/events  Establish processes for staff appreciation, STEAM initiatives, school events, etc.

Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School Treasurer Report  Current Balance = $  GoPlaySave profit of $6,400 was given to ESA for technology purchases  Book fair profits were taken in books for school  Membership income for the year is currently $1,  Spirit items that were purchased at the beginning of the year sold at a loss of ($218.84)  We paid the IRS $850 for the 501c3 application  NSF checks and fees are currently at ($146). We are trying to collect on this.

Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School Fundraising Strategy  We need to evaluate different ideas and align with Board and Administration expectations, calendar, etc.  Send all fundraising suggestions to EPA address for discussion/approval  We are setting precedents as we make decisions for the school’s long-term success  Our focus during the 1 st year is to build bank account to be able to fund school priorities (e.g. Design Challenge Fair – more on next slide)  Fundraising decisions have to factor in size of school (this determines amount of profit; this will change as we grow)

Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School Design Challenge Fair  Description - Students will work collaboratively on projects around the Grand Challenge of Engineering: Improving and Restoring Urban Infrastructure. All students will work in teams to solve a problem/challenge related to that theme and their grade level standards. Students will work with mentors from STEAM Careers to enhance their projects and receive relevant, career-related mentorship. These mentors will then become our “authentic audience” at our Spring Fair. We are hoping that some of our student’s ideas/projects are incorporated in to our new building!  Date - April TBD; Date will be determined after an off-site location is secured  Progress  Grade level topics have been chosen (aligned to standards and to the Grand Challenge theme)  Business Partnerships and mentors have been secured  Timeline for project has been created  All grade levels will begin working on their projects next month (December)  Next Steps  Utilize EPA Chair to help with organizing volunteers  Raising funds to support supplies and equipment for the fair

Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School Communicating Ideas  EPA Officers discuss ideas and collaborate on decisions as a group  Ongoing communication/alignment with School Board and Administration (Mr. Pond, Ms. Cooper) Please send ideas to the EPA Inbox at

Supporting our Students, Teachers, and School Announcements  ESA shirt pick-up Friday from 8:00-8:45 and 2:30- 3:15  Food Drive on November 20 th during morning and afternoon carpool  Holiday fundraiser information coming out soon
