Is this flower worth the problems its trade creates?

WHAT IS THE COST OF A VALENTINES ROSE? Aim: 1. Evaluate the arguments for and against the sale of flowers from Kenya in the United Kingdom. 2. Produce an extended piece of writing

Finishing off our enquiry Today you will be putting together everything you have learned in the last 3 lessons. You are going to produce a piece of extended writing which answers the question: “What is the cost of a valentines rose?”

Success Criteria Pick 3 of these success criteria that you will focus on when producing your essay. 1. You use P.E.E. to construct your paragraphs. 2. You use technical vocabulary accurately. 3. Your work is neatly presented. 4. Your analysis of the issues is balanced (you think of the positives and negatives) 5. You reach an overall conclusion based on your arguments.

Structure of your essay If you address these questions in this order then you will have written a detailed analysis of the issues. What are the main features of the global flower trade? What is the importance of the flower industry to Kenya? What social problems are caused by the Kenyan flower trade? What environmental problems are caused by the Kenyan flower trade? Based on the problems caused, should we continue to buy flowers from Kenya?
