My Country Project By Marie Hagemaster

What is the country? My country that I studied is Mexico. Mexico is part of North America and Central America! It is south of the United States.

What is school like in this country? Schoolchildren wear uniforms (Jazmin). Teachers give homework for each subject. They say the pledge of Allegiance to Mexico everyday. Most schools are empty & poor, but some are rich. Kids go to school in the morning or afternoon.

What is school like in this country? The Mexican Revolution allowed free public schools (Fontes). In Mexico they don’t have to go to school, but they would have to work (Fontes).

Does this country rely on a military? Yes. Their military has 192,000 people. The military in Mexico is fighting a war on drugs. They are neighbors with the United States and we will protect them if needed.

What kind of clothes do they wear? It is warm in Mexico in the day and cold at night. The clothing the girls wear are blouses and skirts. I learned that they sometimes don’t wear shoes. The women in Tehuantepec wear skirts with gold coins.

What are some famous physical features? They have twin volcanoes at Orizamba. Mexico city is the biggest city in the world! They have Mayan pyramids to climb! (DeAngelis) There is a huge stadium for bullfighting called Plaza de Mexico. It seats 50,000 people!

Is this country suffering financially? The country is suffering financially, but it is improving. The United States and Canada helped Mexico get more jobs by agreeing to buy goods to help their country through the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). The drug war is hurting Mexico and people don’t want to go on vacation because it is dangerous.

Why should we go visit this country? We should visit this country because there are many things to do there that are fun. We should visit Mexico because we could go to the beach, play soccer, or see a bullfight. We can get real Mexican food like burritos!

What are 2 ways children our age do things different? Two ways children our age do things different are they have to wear uniforms at school and they play less sports than we do (Jazmin). They do not have to go to school. If they do not go to school they have to work.
