The Aztecs and the Incas Grace Belmonte Pd 3

The Aztecs The Aztecs lived on an island which they called Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan is now known as Mexico City. Tenochtitlan was their capital city.

The Aztecs A famous leader of the Aztecs was Montezuma. Rich people lived in sun-dried brick houses that were very nice. Poor people lived in huts with thatched roofs. Marriages were arranged by matchmakers and men who were 20 usually married 14-15 year old girls. All Aztec children Attended school. Sacrifices became a huge part of the Aztec Culture. For each God there was a different form of sacrifice. Some sacrifices include: a mans heart being cut out and a person being shot multiple times with arrows.

The Aztecs The Spanish conquered the Aztecs by invading the country and wiping out their entire nation. Montezuma was also killed, but no one knows how. Some say he was killed by a rock to his head that came from a crowd of his own people. Others say he was stabbed by a Spaniard, either way Montezuma was murdered.

Incas The Inca nation lived in what we now call the Andes Mountains. They had a capital which they called Cuzco. They had leaders which they called the Sapa Inca. One famous leader they had was Pachacuti.

Incas The Common People of the Inca Empire were divided into a thing called an ayllu. An ayllu was a group that consisted of ten-twenty people who were like family. Each person in the ayllu had a specific job to do. Common people had no freedom. They weren’t allowed to own any business or luxury goods. Everyone had to be married. If a man wasn’t married by the age of twenty, a woman was chosen for him. Life was not all work. They did have religious holidays. Either the people were celebrating a state approved holiday, working in the field, or sleeping. There was little time for eating and bathing.

Incas The Spanish conquered the Inca. What happened was a new leader (Atahualpa ) went to greet Francisco Pizarro (A Spanish leader of the army) and his soldiers. When Atahualpa arrived he was kidnapped and held hostage. To be freed he promised them a 22 foot long room filled with gold and silver. Atahualpa kept his end of the deal, but the Spanish didn’t. They killed Atahualpa and left with all the gold and silver they could carry.
