First Aid and Safety First-Aid Kit

Objectives: Students will Become more aware of the contents and the importance of a First Aid Kit. Identify common items found in a First Aid Kit. Build their own First Aid Kit.

Why have a First Aid Kit? It will help you handle an emergency at a moments notice. With these basic supplies you are better prepared to help your loved ones when they are hurt.

Building your First Aid Kit: The Container  Plastic tackle boxes or containers for storing art supplies are ideal.  Durable  Lightweight  Have handles  Offer lots of space

Things you should include Sterile gloves – 2 pairs. Sterile dressings to stop bleeding. Cleansing agent/soap and antibiotic towelettes to disinfect. Antibiotic ointment to prevent infection. Burn ointment to prevent infection. Adhesive bandages in a variety of sizes. Eye wash solution to flush the eyes or as general decontaminant. Thermometer Prescription medications you take daily. Prescribed medication supplies such as glucose and blood pressure monitoring equipment and supplies.

Things it may be good to have Cell phone Scissors Tweezers Tube of petroleum jelly or other lubricant

Non-prescription drugs Potassium Iodide Aspirin or nonaspirin pain reliever Anit-diarrhea medication Antacid (for upset stomach) Syrup of Ipecac (use to induce vomiting) Laxative Activated charcoal

What to do with your First Aid Kit. It should be stored out children’s reach, but easily accessible for adults Check kits regularly. –Replace missing items –Replace items that may have become outdated

Remember: First Aid Kits contain emergency supplies and medication for unexpected minor illnesses or accidents. There should be one First Aid Kit in every home and one in every vehicle. They need to be checked and maintained on a regular basis
