Welcome to Year 7 ICT Ysgol Dewi Sant’s ICT Department

Objectives  To learn about the school network and understand where files are stored.  To know what different drives you have access to  To understand good file management  To know how to annotate your work and use PRINT SCREEN

Objectives The School Network  Your files are stored on a network server  This is a computer with lots of disk storage in the computer room.  Each student and teacher has their own area - called the Z drive to which they have READ/WRITE permission - who can guess what that is.  Teachers put work on a drive called the U drive. Students only have READ permission to this.  Open up File Explorer and take a look at the drives you can access.

Objectives File Management : Discussion  Why do we need to give files sensible names?  What is the benefit of using a folder structure to store work on the computer?

Objectives

File Management : Starter Activity  Create a new folder called ‘ICT’.  If you haven’t already, create some other subject folders.  Make sure all your files are in the correct folders.  Make sure all the names you have given your files are meaningful, if not rename them. File ->Rename

Objectives How to make a folder ….  From the Start button - select My Computer.  On the top menu click on File and then on New and then Folder

Objectives Annotate Your Work….  To annotate means to explain. Use the PrintScreen button to take a picture of your screen with all the folders you have made.  Paste this into a new Word file and explain what you have done.  There are good examples of annotation all round the room.  There is a video tutorial on how to use printscreen, how to crop, align pictures and make your illustrations attractive.  Your teacher will help you.
