The Hunger Games is about a girl named Katniss and her experience in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a holiday and punishment for the 12 Districts of Panem that rose up against the Capitol in rebellion. Every year, a girl and a boy’s names are drawn from each district from ages 12 to 18 to compete in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a fight to the death in which only one winner survives. It is a televised event that everyone in Panem is required to watch.

This is the map of Panem. It was once called North America. Through a series of wars and global climate change, a great portion of the land mass is under water.

The map of Panem shows 13 districts and the Capitol District 1 is responsible for the production of luxury items. District 2 trains men and women to be Peacekeepers and mines for granite. District 3 is responsible for the production of electronics. District 4 provides seafood. District 5 provides power generation for the Capitol. District 6 is responsible for transportation.

District 7 specializes in lumber and paper. District 8 specializes in textiles and has at least one factory that makes Peacekeeper’s uniforms. District 9 is involved in the production of grain. District 10 specializes in livestock. District 11 specializes in agriculture. District 12 mines for coal. District 13 mined for graphite and produced nuclear technology, but was destroyed by the Capitol in the 1 st rebel war. All of the Districts work for the Capitol.

I read The Hunger Games because a lot of people have read it and liked it. I enjoyed it because it had a lot of action and fighting. It’s like a really small world war with 12 teams. The Hunger Games is similar to the Harry Potter series because adults and children read it.

There are several cool things about this book. Some of them are it is set in the future so there is advanced technology, there are new created animals (called “mutts” short for muttations), weird suits, and weapons people used from the past like the bow and arrow. If you enjoy a fast paced book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, The Hunger Games is the right book for you.
