Using Apostrophes
Possession- The house belongs to my mother. My mother’s house. The bicycle belongs to the girl. The girl’s bicycle.
Possession When the possessor is one person (single) : The man’s coat. My sister’s hat. When the possessors are more than one (plural): My cousins’ parents. When names end with the letter ‘s’: James’ wife or James’s wife
Contractions- There is nobody here. There’s nobody here. Where is Freddy? Where’s Freddy?
Contractions Formal writing: She has always loved him. Informal or speaking: She’s always loved him. The apostrophe is used to indicate the missing letters (or sounds). I’m (I am) He’s (He is) You’re (You are)
