Anzac Day Anzac Day is commemorated on the 25th April. On this day we remember all the people who went to war.

What does ANZAC mean? ANZAC means Australian and New Zealand Army Corps

The Anzacs The Anzacs were the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who went to help Britain in the First World War. The flag at the top is the New Zealand flag and the flag below it is the Australian flag

Diggers Australian soldiers are also called ‘diggers’. This photo shows two diggers from the First World War.

Gallipoli During the First World War many Australians and New Zealanders died at Gallipoli. Each year people travel to this place in Turkey to honour the dead soldiers.

Anzac Cove

The Shrine of Remembrance The Shrine is a big building on St.Kilda Road about 2 kilometres from the centre of the city. People visit the shrine to show respect for all those who died at war. On 25th April a special dawn service is held at the Shrine of Remembrance.

The Red Poppy In France and Belgium red poppies grew in the fields where soldiers had died. People all over Australia wear red poppies on Anzac Day to remember those that died.
