-Queensland is believed to have been discovered by the Aboriginals thousands of years prior to European Settlement -These stories are passed down through legends and myths of the Dream Time. -There are sites that have been dated back to being 15, 000 to 30, 000 years old -Queensland was first seen by European Dutch Explorers William Jansz and Jan Carstens. They first made contact with land at the Gulf of Carpentaria in Cook is known to be the first European to encounter Queensland’s East Coast in 1770 in his HMS endeavour -At first it was part of the New South Wales colony which at the time was occupied by a large part of the Australian continent -Brisbane was established in 1825 for the more intractable convicts. -In 1839 the settlement was closed and the land was for sale for permanent settlement.
