Do Color Preferences Matter?

Question Do color preferences affect repetitive tasks that require fine motor skills, like picking up small objects very quickly?

Purpose The purpose of this project is to determine if our color preferences affects our choices. This is important because, it affect people’s choices when buying something.

Hypothesis We hypothesize that color preferences will affect peoples choices. We believe this because it makes no sense for people to pick colors that they are not attracted to. For example, when people shop for clothing, they only choose colors they like.

Procedure

Materials 1 bag of M&Ms 1 bag of Skittles 10 boxes of 24 color pencils A sharpened pencil 1 large bin to put materials in Crayons

Variables Manipulated –Objects people pick from Responding-Percentage people pick their favorite color Constant- Method of finding favorite color and objects in the bin

DIRECTIONS Fill a bucket with snap cubes. Pull out 10. Record choice. Put cubes back. Ask favorite color and record. Repeat steps 1-5 using M & M’s. Repeat steps 1-5 using Skittles. Repeat steps 1-5 using crayons. Repeat steps 1-5 using color pencils. Calculate the percentage of people who picked their favorite color the most.

SUBJECTS WHO PICKED THER FAVORITE COLOR

Conclusion Our hypothesis was incorrect. Color preference does not affect peoples color choices. The average percentage of subjects who picked their favorite color was 40%. It maybe interesting to find out next if we used food to see if the results would change.
