Conference Membership Recruitment Program JOIN IEEE and GET A FREE SOCIETY! Each full-dues paying higher grade IEEE membership applicant is given a free membership to one of IEEE Technical Societies. The goal is to recruit IEEE members at conferences. The program runs from 1 st of September 2003 through 15 of August 2004.

"IEEE requires that there be a differential between the conference registration fees charged to IEEE Members versus non-members. Non- member registrants pay a significantly higher fee. Many IEEE Societies, with the approval of their conference chair and treasurer, follow the excellent practice of allowing a portion of the higher non-member registration fee to be applied toward the payment of IEEE dues for applicants who elect to join IEEE during a conference.

While it is recommended that the differential in registration fees for nonmembers should provide an incentive to join IEEE, it should not cover the full dues payment. It is important that the applicants pay some portion of the dues themselves. Why? Because personally paying some portion of the dues represents a commitment on their part toward investing in their continuing professional development through joining IEEE. If they pay nothing toward IEEE dues, they are more likely to see IEEE membership as not having any intrinsic worth when renewal payments come due."

The above website also recommends the detailed and clear procedure to achieve that via a "Membership Desk" at the conference site. It says that *four weeks* before the conference, say, ICRA 2004, the conference organizers should contact IEEE Membership Development (Mike Binder at _m.binder ) to order membership applications, posters, and related materials for the Membership Desk.

The Registration- IEEE & R&A Annual Fees Bundle The surcharge might be equal to a portion of basic IEEE & R&A Annual Fees. Every attendant to the conference will become a member for one year, and get to know the advantages of membership.
