Virtual Rubbing The wall now has 58,253 names inscribed on it (8 women)…the number is still growing. The wall is visited by over 3 million people each year. The wall is reflective for a reason…why? Wall starts out at 8 inches and reaches 10 feet at the middle. It points towards the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

Maya Lin 21 year old student at Yale when she designed it. When asked to participate in the design contest she thought that a memorial already existed and knew very little about the wall.

Three Soldiers Statue The three men stand looking at the wall There is one hispanic man, one black, and one white. This statue was erected after the wall to appease people unhappy with Lin’s design.

Vietnam Women’s Memorial. Located a short distance from the wall.
