History of Humpty Humpty Dumpty is a character in an English nursery rhyme. Originally a riddle and one of the best known in the English-speaking world. Typically portrayed as an anthropomorphic egg. First recorded versions of the rhyme date from late eighteenth century England and the tune from 1870 in James William Elliott's National Nursery Rhymes and Nursery Songs. Humpty Dumpty was popularised in the United States by actor George L. Fox (1825–77). Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass (1872).

Who was Humpty Dumpty The rhyme does not explicitly state that the subject is an egg and originally posed as a riddle Humpty Dumpty is King Richard 3rd of England Humpty Dumpty was a "tortoise” siege engine Cannon at the church at St Marys wall Also a slang for broiled brandy with ale, or a short and clumsy person, or a person in an insecure position once broken would be difficult to fix

Lewis Carol Humpty “HOWEVER, the egg only got larger and larger, and more and more human: when she had come within a few yards of it, she saw that it had eyes and a nose and mouth; and, when she had come close to it, she saw clearly that it was HUMPTY DUMPTY himself. 'It can't be anybody else!' she said to herself. 'I'm as certain of it, as if his name were written all over his face!’ ”
