Computing Resources: Options for Universities No charge for these options Requests processed in less than one week if criteria are met (except for large requests) –Large allocations with NSF award (>900 GAUs) –Small allocations with NSF award (< = 900 GAUs) –Small data access account (10-20 GAUs) –Graduate student account (600 GAUs) –Post-doc account (1500 GAUs) –New faculty account (1500 GAUs)
Large Allocation with NSF Award Requests > 900 GAUs Requires NSF award Requests reviewed twice yearly by SCD Advisory Panel Interim allocation of up to 900 GAUs can be made while review is in progress End date is same as NSF award end date
Small Allocation with NSF Award Requests <= 900 GAUs Requires NSF award End date is same as NSF award end date Processed within a week
Small Data Access Account Allocation of GAUs for two years NSF award not needed Open to researchers and faculty at universities Charge for cryptocards if not for university personnel Accounts are usually renewable
Graduate Student Allocation Limited to a one-time allocation of 600 GAUs NSF award not needed Open to students at U.S. universities while working on degree Requires from advisor to substantiate need for allocation for thesis
Post-Doc Allocation Limited to a one-time allocation of 1500 GAUs NSF grant not needed Open to post-docs at U.S. universities and non-profit research organizations who have received their Ph.D. within past 5 years Requires from university sponsor
New Faculty Allocation Limited to 1500 GAUs NSF grant not needed Open to faculty at U.S. universities who have received their Ph.D. within past 5 years
Joint Allocation Allocation for work being done jointly between a university researcher and an NCAR researcher Requests are approved by the NCAR division director where the NCAR researcher is located Some divisions have requested more GAUs for joint projects than others Contact your collaborator at NCAR for more information
