A revolutionary poet in terms of attitude, of modality, of metaphorical approach and manner, of background and outlook. A poet, prose-writer and a playwright, Mihai Eminescu marked in Romanian literature the exceptional moment of the meeting between the genius as an individual value and a genius as a value of collective, ethnical thinking and sensibility. Time, space, life, death, love, hatred, nature, myths-are all to be found in his verse. Alexandru Macedonski published his first volume of poems when he was 18, under the title Prima Verba. In 1880 he founded the review Literatorul (The Literate), in which he presented himself as a defender of art with a social character. The review also included creations of many young writers. Macedonski was an anti-royalist and he supported his views by publishing pamphlets. Macedonski is considered the predecessor of Romanian symbolism. It was during those days of patriotic upsurge that he wrote his poem Desteptarea Romaniei (Romania`s Awakening), which carried a revolutionary and unionist message. After the Union of the Principalities (1859), he became Minister of Foreign Affairs. His most important volumes of poems are: Pasteluri (Pastels) and Ostasii nostri (Our Soldiers). Lucian Blaga was a commanding personality of the Romanian culture of the inter-bellum period. He was a philosopher and writer acclaimed for his originality, a university professor and a diplomat. He was born on May 9, 1895 in Lancrăm, near Alba Iulia, Romania, into a family of priests. Although he could speak he did not speak any words until he was four, and he later described his early childhood as "under the sign of the incredible absence of word".
