Peer Review for Analytical Essay

What to look for: What is the paper’s focus? (What is it about? What is the point?) What is the paper’s purpose? (Why is it written?) What sources does the writer use? Are they all cited correctly? (from book, from article/blog, from documentary or film, from self experience) Does the paper have sufficient evidence to prove its point? Does the paper adequately analyze the connections between the evidence presented? Do the paragraphs build on one another using effective transitions?

Quantities: 5 quotes from Of Mice and Men Equivalent info from current culture Some may be quotes Some may be cited paraphrases Some may be from your experience

Citations? Is the info from my life?  No citation needed. Personal experiences “In our culture, I have noticed…” Is it a quote or paraphrased from somewhere?  Citation needed. Interview Blog / website Article Documentary / film Other book Songs

What do I put in parentheses? First word from Works Cited page Put info into easybib or bibme or other similar site Take first word (usually author’s last name or title of source) and put into parentheses after the quote or paraphrase From Of Mice and Men: (Steinbeck 75).  unless you are using your experiences as your “current culture” info and no other sources; in that case, you don’t need to add Steinbeck’s name to your citations.

What do I put on Works Cited page? Every source you use (excluding yourself) Steinbeck, John. Of Mice and Men. New York: Viking Press, Alphabetized list Double-spaced Reverse-indent Separate page
