Examples Benvolio is portrayed in a more honourable fashion in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet than in Luhrman’s Romeo +Juliet because he is honest and displays loyalty to Romeo. Robinson’s Richard Cory in “Richard Cory” is less emotionally stable than Hamlet in Shakespeare’s Hamlet because he isn’t as confident and he makes poorer choices. Template : The [conflict, character, or theme] in Shakespeare’s Othello is [debatable and specific] than Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men because [reason 1] and [reason 2].
2 Texts Read the analysis of Desdemona from Othello. What qualities does she have? How does Shakespeare portray women based on the portrayal of Desdemona? Read the analysis of Curley’s wife from Of Mice and Men. What qualities does she have? How does Steinbeck portray women based on the portrayal of Curley’s wife?
Write Your Claim Now write a claim that compares Othello to Of Mice and Men using only the 2 passages. You could compare and/or contrast the characters of Desdemona and Curley’s wife. You could also create a theme about the portrayal of women and compare and/or contrast the theme based on the two texts. Make sure that you include all the requirements of a comparative claim. It’s okay if your claim does not turn out to be correct. After all, we’ve only read one of the two texts in its entirety.
