BY PHILLIP WEINSTEIN MAY R&E: THE MAZE RUNNER

SUMMARY Thomas does not know where he is, who he is, or why he is there. All he knows is his name, Thomas. He soon finds out he is in the Glade, which is a small area fenced in by giant walls. Thomas soon realizes that the walls move, and are part of a big, unsolved maze. Will Thomas make his way out of the maze? Or will he die trying? Read the book The Maze Runner by James Dashner to find out what will happen.

R: LETTER TO THE AUTHOR Dear Mr. Dashner, My Name is Phillip, and I loved your book, The Maze Runner. I am doing a report called an R&E on your book. I have a few questions about your book, and I hope you can answer them. 1. What inspired you to write your book? 2.Were the beetle blades actual bugs? What did they look like? 3. Was the only escape out of the maze the Griever Hole? If so, did the Runners ever consider the Griever hole an option? I hope you take my questions into consideration. Sincerely, Phillip Weinstein 6 th Grade Birmingham Covington School Bloomfield Hills, MI

E: OTHER DYSTOPIAN NOVELS Dark life : Set in an apocalyptic future, Dark Life is about a boy named Ty who lives in the deep ocean. On land, people are packed in small spaces, so people are living underwater. What will happen to Ty? Read the book Dark Life to find out. The Limit : In a word similar to ours, children are taken away from their families because aren’t paying their debt. Matt/s family is just over the debt, but only one trip to the store could change everything. Read the book The Limit to find out what happens. I plan to read Dark life over the summer, as it sounds like a good book.

SUMMER READING LIST Of Mice and Men : This book is about 2 workers who moved work due to the Great Depression. I found this book on a summer reading list and it looked good. The Scorch Trials : This book is the sequel to the Maze Runner. It is about what happens after they leave the maze. Bomb : Also found on a summer reading list, Bomb is about a race to build a nuclear bomb. It looks like an OK book, and I will read it this summer. Titanic: Voices From the Disaster : This book is about people who were on the Titanic, and lived to tell the tale. This was a Birbery book last year. Legend : A must read for die hard Hunger Games fans, Legend is about Day and June, two completely opposite characters. This is the first book in a trilogy, so I plan to read them all.
