SAT VOCABULARY Section 1

Here’s how this will work…  You will have a vocabulary quiz every week on these terms. Each week there will be 10 new words. At the end of the nine weeks you will have a vocabulary test that will be CUMMULATIVE— meaning it will include all of the words from the 9 weeks.

Prudent  Careful and sensible; marked by sound judgment.

Inevitable  Incapable of being avoided or prevented.

Subtle  Difficult to detect or grasp by the mind or analyze.

Compromise  An accommodation in which both sides make concessions.

Prosperity  The condition of prospering; having good fortune.

Reverence  A feeling of profound respect for someone or something.

Compassion  A deep awareness of and sympathy for another’s suffering.

Diligent  Quietly and steadily persevering, especially in detail or exactness.

Benevolent  Showing or motivated by sympathy and understanding and generosity.

Haughty  Having or showing arrogant superiority to an disdain of those one views as unworthy.

Collaborate  Work together towards a common goal  I love when students collaborate during class work and work diligently to understand the material.

Impute  Attribute or credit to  I impute my success to my hard work and the guidance I received from my mentors.

Bias  A partiality (opinion) that prevents objective consideration of a situation  I may be bias, but Mrs. Hodges has the best students in her 1 st block here at Nansemond River High School.
