What Healthy Pastors Do Pastor David O. Dykes Green Acres Baptist Church Tyler, Texas

A Healthy Pastor and Personal Devotion Lesson One

Key Truth: Healthy pastors maintain a deep and consistent connection to God. Acts 6:2-4 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.

Prayer is a Priority 1. Determine a TIME for prayer. Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35 2. Follow a PLAN for your prayer time.

A Simple Prayer Outline: C-A-T-I-S 1. Confession of sin If I had cherished sin in my heart, the LORD would not have listened. Psalm 66:18

A Simple Prayer Outline: C-A-T-I-S 2. Adoration of God Through Jesus, therefore, les us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. Hebrews 13:15

A Simple Prayer Outline: C-A-T-I-S 3. Thanksgiving unto God Oh LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever. Psalm 30:12b

A Simple Prayer Outline: C-A-T-I-S 4. Intercession for others And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel. Ephesians 6:18-19

A Simple Prayer Outline: C-A-T-I-S 5. Supplication for your needs Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for YOU will answer me. Psalm 86:6-7 NKJV

Studying God’s Word is Essential Ways to Improve your Personal Study of God’s Word: 1. CONFESS any area of sin. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 2. Enlist an ACCOUNTABILITY partner. 3. Have Bible reading PLAN.

Worship is Key 1. Worship CORPORATELY. Glorify the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:3 2. Worship PRIVATELY. 3. When you spend time with God, others will NOTICE.
