The Writing Process Prewriting Drafting Revising Editing Publishing

Step I Prewriting: Prewriting is anything you do before you write a draft of your document. It includes thinking, taking notes, talking to others, brainstorming, outlining, and gathering information (e.g., interviewing people, researching in the library, assessing data).   Although prewriting is the first activity you engage in, generating ideas is an activity that occurs throughout the writing process.

Plate Graphic Organizer What is your Name? What doe your name mean to you? What color's) best represent you? What are your beliefs? Passions? What are your nicknames? What kind of person do you want to be know as? Who are you heroes? What has been the most important time in your life so far? Add any other graphics/colors that represents you!

Strategy 1 Brainstorming: this helps you to generate ideas. Fill out the name graphic organizer. The more information you provide the more you have to work with in your essay.

Brainstorming: Name Chart Cody Ryan Bertram Name of uncle Two first names German Hated it as a kid Went by Ryan in Jr. High Name of Shakespearian character Called Cory in school Date to Revolutionary war in U.S

Sample Memoir Questions __________________ What event did the writer focus upon? Why do you think the writer chose this topic/event? How did the writer feel about the incident(s) when it occurred? How do you know? How does the writer feel about the incidentj(s) now? How do you know? Which part of the piece impressed you most? Why? What do you still wonder about? Can you make a recommendation for an alternate way to arrange this paper?

As you fill out your Name Chart, consider these questions.– Who named you? Why? What is the significance of your name?– What are names that you almost had? What are names that you’ve wished you had?– How does your name connect to the rest of your family?– What are some troubles (or opportunities) your name has given you?– What are your nicknames?

Step 2 Drafting: Drafting occurs when you put your ideas into sentences and paragraphs. Here you concentrate upon explaining and supporting your ideas fully. Here you also begin to connect your ideas. Regardless of how much thinking and planning you do, the process of putting your ideas in words changes them; often the very words you select evoke additional ideas or implications.   Don't pay attention to such things as spelling at this stage.   This draft tends to be writer-centered: it is you telling yourself what you know and think about the topic

Assignment Begin writing you first draft. Don’t worry about spelling and gramar.
