2 United States Between 1820 and 1872 there is a massive emigration to the United States of America. At that period Portuguese emigrants entered that country During the first half of the 20th Century, emigration to the United States continued to grow. Nowadays people form the Portuguese community residing there.

3 Where did they settle? The Portuguese communities settled in: Connecticut Rhode island New York New Jersey California

4 Canada Emigration started at the beginning of the fifties, with the signature of bilateral emigration agreements between Portugal and Canada. It reached its peak in the last years of 60 and 70. At the end of the eighties there is a noticeable break. The Portuguese who emigrate to Canada come from Azores. There is an estimated population of Portuguese individuals in Canada, including the Luso- descendants.
