Instructions for Part One: Canada’s Mission Goals - Afghanistan For part one of this assignment use the Canadian Government Website: – Canada In Afghanistan Canada In Afghanistan Fill in the slides provided with the information requested in your own words. This is at most a partner (1 or 2 person) assignment! Each slide will also contain a picture of Canada’s war/mission in Afghanistan which you will provide a link to. – See the example on the title page of this presentation and then ask for help if you do not know how to create links. – You pictures cannot all be from the same site.

Priority One: Security How is Canada Providing Help ? – Provide training to the ANA (Afghan National Army) also equipping them, and mentoring them. – Helping to build in administration and logistic support – Helping obtain justice through the ANA, this also includes correctional systems. – What are two goals that Canada has for this part of the mission by 2011? – We want the ANA and the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) to become allies. – They also want to improve the security and provide a safe environment n the key provinces of Kan /sizes/m/in/photostream/dahar.

Priority Two: Basic Services How is Canada Providing Help ? – We are helping the people gain more confidence and trust in their government. – We are helping repair buildings, infrastructure for irrigation, and portable water. – They are also repairing roads and making vocational training possible. They are also rebuilding schools. – What are two goals that Canada has for this part of the mission by 2011? – They hope to improve the irrigation and water management, repair more schools, teach teachers and prove seasonal jobs for individuals and families /sizes/m/in/photostream/

Priority Three: Humanitarian Aid How is Canada Providing Help ? – They were providing vaccinations, food, water and shelter for those who are in need, such as; refugees, drought affected individuals, and internally displaced people. – They are also supplying items such as; blankets, kitchen utensils to people who need them the most or are most effected. – They are also creating mine awareness education. This includes the clearance and provision of mines. – What are two goals that Canada has for this part of the mission by 2011? – They aim to have humanitarian assistance continued and accessible to all who are in need in Afghanistan. – Give people more land to grow harvest instead stripping it for mines /sizes/m/in/photostream/

Priority Four: National Institutions How is Canada Providing Help ? – They are wishing to provide technical and financial support for the Afghan elections, this includes creating a national voter registry. – Create an alliance with international donors, which will provide resources. – What are two goals that Canada has for this part of the mission by 2011?
