Kinetic and Potential Energy What type of energy represents a soccer ball flying through the air? It is moving, so it has Kinetic Energy It is in the air, so it has Potential Energy. Why? Because it is attracted to the Earth due to Gravity

Mechanical Energy is the sum of the potential and kinetic energy of a flying soccer ball or any other object Thermal energy is the sum of the potential and kinetic energy of the particles that make up a material. The particles that make up solids, liquids, and gasses are in constant motion so they have Kinetic energy.
