Bridge to Employment Tip and Tricks for Presentations

 Content preparation  Slide preparation  The Presentation  Closing

 Understand what your audience would like to take away from your presentation ◦ Professionals ◦ Doctors ◦ Friends ◦ Superiors ◦ Subordinates ◦ Friendly ◦ Serious ◦ Persuade ◦ Inform

 Tell them what you’re going to tell them.  Tell them.  Tell them what you told them.  Time!!!!!

 Don’t put too much text on one slide.  The information on the slides should not be word for word what you will be saying.  People remember short bits of information, not sentences.  Only have critical information in full detail.

 Create the look for the audience.  Include some pictures.  Put information in graphics form if possible.  Don’t go crazy with the animations.  Look online for great presentations.  Use large legible font and size.

 Be confident!  Look good.  Do not read from the slides word for word.  Do not read from index cards.  Eye contact with audience.  Talk slowly, Talk clearly, Don’t mumble.  Try not to say “um”.  Try to engage the audience if appropriate - ◦ Ask questions ◦ Show of hands

 Make a tape of yourself. ◦ Look for fidgeting. ◦ Look for “Ums”. ◦ What is your body language saying? ◦ Did you forget anything?  Look online for other good presentation skills, tips and tricks.  Toastmasters – speech giving club.
