Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty CW #255 Verses 1-5 Text: Benjamin Schmolck, Setting: UNSER HERRSCHER Tune: Joachim Neander, , alt.

Verse 1: Open now thy gates of beauty; Zion let me enter there, Where my soul in joyful duty Waits for him who answers prayer. Oh, how blessed is this place, Filled with solace, light, and grace!

Verse 2: Gracious God, I come before thee; Come thou also unto me. Where we find thee and adore thee, There a heav'n on earth must be. To my heart, oh, enter thou; Let it be thy temple now!

Verse 3: Here thy praise is gladly chanted; Here thy seed is duly sown. Let my soul, where it is planted, Bring forth precious sheaves alone, So that all I hear may be Fruitful unto life in me.

Verse 4: Thou my faith increase and quicken; Let me keep thy gift divine, How so e'er temptations thicken; May thy Word still o'er me shine As my guiding star through life, As my comfort in all strife.

Verse 5 (Please Rise): Speak, O God, and I will hear thee; Let thy will be done indeed. May I undisturbed draw near thee While thou dost thy people feed. Here of life the fountain flows; Here is balm for all our woes.

Opening Verses Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Pastor: Oh, how I love your law! All: I meditate on it all day long.

Opening Verses Pastor: Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, All: for they are ever with me. Pastor: I have more insight than all my teachers All: for I meditate on your statutes.

Opening Verses Pastor: How sweet are your words to my taste, All: sweeter than honey to my mouth! Pastor: All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Opening Verses All: so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Pastor: Yet so often we have despised God’s Word and failed to gladly hear and learn it. For this and all our sins, we bow before God and humbly ask his forgiveness.

Confession of Sin All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (Pastor says the prayer of the day) All: Amen.

Psalm # 119a Pastor: You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. All: Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!

Psalm # 119a Pastor: Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. All: I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.

Speak, O Savior; I Am Listening CW #283 Verses 1-4 Text: Anna Sophia of Hesse-Darmstadt, Setting: WERDE MUNTER Tune: Johann Schop,

Verse 1: Speak, O Savior I am list'ning, As a servant to his lord. Let me show respect and honor To your holy, precious Word, That each day, my whole life through,

Verse 1: I may serve and follow you. Let your Word e'er be my pleasure And my heart's most precious treasure.

Verse 2: Oh, what blessing to be near you And to listen to your voice! Let me ever love and fear you; Let your Word still be my choice. Many hardened sinners, Lord,

Verse 2: Flee in terror at your Word, But to all who feel sin's burden You give peace and words of pardon.

Verse 3: Lord, your words are waters living Where I quench my thirsty needs. Lord, your words are bread life giving; On your words my spirit feeds.

Verse 3: Lord, your words will be my light Through death's cold and dreary night; Yes, they are my sword prevailing And my cup of joy unfailing.

Verse 4: As I pray, dear Jesus, hear me; Let your words in me take root. May your Spirit e'er be near me That I bear abundant fruit.

Verse 4: May I daily sing your praise, From my heart glad anthems raise, Till my highest praise is given In the endless joy of heaven.

“Give Me Your Undivided Attention!” 1. Leave the distractions of the world behind 2. Let the Word of the Lord be heard
