Power Up For Student Success: First Grade Back to School Night is on August 20 th at 6:00pm in your child’s classroom

First Grade Website Great source of information like: Calendar of Events Sight word lists and ideas Monthly Extra Credit Homework Special projects information Theme stories and helpful tips Math concepts and ideas

Important Papers Please sign and return: Please fill out all the important papers and return before Friday. Make sure to sign the transportation form. This is needed for field trips throughout the year.

ESPRI Get your Password online View your child’s test results on ESPRI View your child’s classroom assignments View your child’s grades Espri is the district’s link for parents to view test results and grades throughout the year. Visit the district website at

Report Cards and Testing Grades will be available on ESPRI as well Report Card dates: During Conference Week, November 2 nd, through November 6 th. February May Progress Reports on ESPRI: Every 6 weeks District testing: 3 times during the year State Testing: First Grade does not take state testing.

Homework Policy Each teacher has their own policy. Check with your child’s teacher. Homework is sent home on a weekly basis. Reading Log is part of your child’s homework. Special Project Homework will be sent home throughout the year. First grade is the time to start good homework habits that will last all through school.

Reading Log Please read to and with your child every night and record it on your child’s reading log. Ask questions before, during and after reading. Please read the assigned reading books that are sent home with your child. Read your library books, most of these are also AR books. Windrows

Monthly Extra Credit Homework This is always extra credit. It will be posted on the first grade website. It is due back on the last school day of the month. It is a fun way to reinforce concepts we are learning.

“AR” Reading Program or Accelerated Reader A.R. “First” Class Readers AR is a reading incentive program that focuses on reading comprehension. Read more about AR on the Windrows’ website. Has monthly incentives and rewards. Renaissance Place: View your child’s progress online by seeing their points and which books they already tested on.

There are 11 sets of sight words Please sign the slip when your child is able to read each word within 3 seconds. When they pass their list at school they will be given the next list. The lists are available on the first grade website.

Field Trips Permission slips will be sent home and also posted on the district website. We will be asking for a suggested donation that helps with the cost of the trip. Make sure to fill out the transportation form in your back to school packet.

Patriotic Performance We will be having our first grade evening patriotic performance later in the year. We will send home a notice a few weeks prior to confirm the date and time.

Water Bottles & Supplies Please bring water bottles with pop up sippers. Please go over the supply list that was sent home at the end of last year, a copy is available on the website. Remember all school supplies should fit inside the desk.

Toys And Valuable Items Toys and valuable items are best kept at home. Please only bring in a few special items to share when your child is the Star of The Week.

Birthdays Please let your teacher know in advance if you would like to bring something in for the class. Treats like pencils and non-food items are appreciated. If you would like to bring a food item please read about the healthy alternatives on the district website. Please bring enough for the entire class. Please bring single serving size items like cupcakes. Please bring the treats in the morning.

Sign Ups Sign up sheets will be posted on the door for any special activities. Each teacher will let you know when they need supplies for activities and/or special events.

One More Thing Before Charging into First Grade! Volunteer to help at home or in the classroom. Support the P.T.A. Fill out the membership envelope. Award Assemblies are once a month. Your teacher will let you know when your child will be receiving an award either by note or phone call in advance.
