Moon Phases by Kevin Yasuda

Planet By name

The moon looks different as it goes around Earth. Sometimes it is round and sometimes it is crescent. Sometimes it is not there at all!

Fact card 1 Type your informational sentence 1

A Full Moon When the moon looks like a circle, it is called a full moon. You can see the whole moon because we can see the entire sunlit side. When the moon is in our nighttime sky, the sun shines light on it and it is visible.

Fact card 2 Type your informational sentence 2

A Quarter Moon When the moon looks like a half circle, it is called a quarter moon. A quarter moon is visible because we can see half of the sunlit side. Since the sun lights half of the moon, half of a half is a quarter.

Fact card 3 Type your informational sentence 3

A crescent moon The moon sometimes looks like a banana. You may see it like this because you can see only a sliver of the part that is sunlit.

Optional Fact card 4 Type your informational sentence 4

A New moon A new moon is an invisible moon. You can see only the shade side of the moon. Since it is the darkness you see next to the sun, it will be gone

Fun Facts List your extra important facts here

Fun Facts The moon goes through its phases in about 4 weeks. A moon that gets bigger is called a waxing moon. A moon that gets smaller is called a waning moon. The same side of the moon always faces Earth. We can never see the back side of the moon (except on a spaceship)

Comprehension Questions Write your questions here from your facts cards only
