How you learn best

David Kolb's model: based on the Experiential Learning Theory, Converger; Diverger;Assimilator; Accommodator;. Honey and Mumford's model: adaptation of Kolb’s model,Having an experience,Reviewing the experience, Concluding from the experience, Planning the next steps. Anthony Gregorc's model: Gregorc and Butler worked to organize a model describing how the mind works. In this model, there are two perceptual qualities 1) concrete and 2) abstract; and two ordering abilities 1) random and 2) sequential. Fleming's VAK/VARK model One of the most common and widely-used categorizations of the various types of learning styles is Fleming's VARK model (sometimes VAK) which expanded upon earlier Neuro-linguistic programming (VARK) models: visual learners; auditory learners; kinesthetic learners or tactile learners.

One of the most common and widely-used categorizations of the various types of learning styles is Fleming's VARK model (sometimes VAK) which expanded upon earlier Neuro-linguistic programming (VARK) models. Fleming claimed that: visual learners have a preference for seeing (think in pictures; visual aids such as overhead slides, diagrams, handouts, etc.). Auditory learners best learn through listening (lectures, discussions, tapes, etc.). Tactile/kinesthetic learners prefer to learn via experience—moving, touching, and doing (active exploration of the world; science projects; experiments, etc.). Its use in pedagogy allows teachers to prepare classes that address each of these areas. Students can also use the model to identify their preferred learning style and maximize their educational experience by focusing on what benefits them the most.

1. Complete the Learning Styles Inventory (LSI) 2. Score your LSI 3. Analyze your scores 4. Presentation

+ Analyzing Your Scores + 1. The highest score indicates your preference. The lowest score indicates your weakest modality If your two highest scores are the same or very close, both of these modalities may be your preference If all three of your scores are identical, you have truly integrated all three modalities and can work equally well in any of the modalities Scores that are 10 or higher indicated you use the modality frequently Scores lower than 10 indicate the modality is not highly used. Most often, it is because you have had limited experience learning how to use the modality effectively as you learn. In this case, learning new strategies can strengthen your use of the modality.

+ Form groups according to your Learning Style + Read Common Characteristics and Learning Strategies. + Choose a Learning Strategy to teach the class how to use. (For example: Teach students an English song to help them learn the alphabet.)

+ First – tell the class at least 3 Common Characteristics of your groups Learning Style + Then – teach the class your Learning Strategy + All group members must participate during the presentation.
