Daily Quiz Answers 1. What are “mammalian cells”? A: Mammalian cell culture" refers to the cells of a mammals, isolated from specific tissues (i.e. skin, liver, glands, etc.) and further cultivated and reproduced in an artificial medium. It has become a major field in modern biotechnology, especially in the area of human health.

Daily Quiz Answers 2.What is apoptosis? A: As mammalian cells have originated from multi-cellular organisms, they still hold the genetic program of inducing their own cell death; a process called "apoptosis" or "programmed cell death". This can limit culture productivity in biotechnological processes. Another major problem is the finite life-span of primary cells, which die after several doublings in vitro. This problem was solved by must be sub cultured or passaged.

Daily Quiz Answers 3.What type of media is used? A: Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Media (DMEM) is a basal medium consisting of vitamins, amino acids, salts, glucose and a pH indicator. It contains no proteins or growth promoting agents. Therefore, it requires supplementation to be a "complete" medium. It is most commonly supplemented with 5-10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Daily Quiz Answers 4.What is the morphology of epithelial cells? A: Epithelial-like: cells that are attached to a substrate and appear flattened and polygonal in shape.
