The Underground Railroad

Most Important Fact The Underground Railroad was a network of abolitionists who set up transportation and hiding places for slaves so they could escape from the south to freedom.

About 130,000 slaves reached freedom through the Underground Railroad.

It took the slaves from the south to places like the north, Mexico, Canada, and other safe areas.

The Underground Railroad reached its height between 1850-1860.

Harriet Tubman was a former slave who escaped from the south Harriet Tubman was a former slave who escaped from the south. After her escape she became conductor on the Underground Railroad and led more then 300 slaves to freedom. She is called the Moses of her people.
