SUSPENSION Performance vs. Specs PASSIVE ATTENUATION IN BAND: OK for AdV MIRROR HOR. SWING DAMPING “IN VELOCITY”: Ok for Locking in Adv MIRROR HOR. SWING DAMPING “IN DISPLACEMENT”: Ok for low noise control but not when wind ! Factor 30 out Susp E&S to tune system according to wind and reduce noise Tiltmeters to read tilt Piezo to control tilt Accelerometers & ID (to understand role of longitudinal loop and possible improv.) Monolithic Legs (Displace resonance and understand role) Filter Zero (Displace resonance and understand role – preisolator ?) mHz Above ….

SAT SAT 1 - Tilltmeters (RM2-PISA, Resp: A.Giazotto) SAT 2 - Piezo (PISA, Resp: F.Frasconi) SAT 3 - Monolithic Legs (PISA, Resp: F.Frasconi) SAT 4 - Accelerometers (EGO-PISA, Resp: F.Paoletti) + NAPLES (Ext) SAT 5 - Filter Zero (PISA, Resp: R.Passaquieti) R&D Program detailed in SAFE proposal & Susp Electronics Documentation Signal Recycling is not presently considered in SAT !! SAT 6 - Suspension Electronics (PISA, Resp: A.Gennai) See presentations ad Adv Meetings DOCUMENTATION CONCLUDED

SPECS: Fixed (see SAFE Proposal) STATUS: First test failed (robustness). OK electronic chain Flex-Pivot Supports (15/01) – New Flex Pivot (29/01) Test of new system (February) WORKS SURELY IN ADVANCED (12 Pieces – Scarce Impact) DOES NOT WORK ONLY MSC WHEN WIND SAT 1 - Tiltmeters

SAT 2 - Piezo STATUS: 3 Piezo on site. Tests will start in April just for lack of manpower SPECS: Available SCENARIO: Test plan available – High power supply – validation by 2008: If tiltmeter+piezo OK tilt control tests on SAFE. (If failure only MSC to contrast wind) SCENARIO: It should work. Understand the necessity of the replacement is part of the R&D programm. If answer is positive massive production. SPECS & GOAL:Specs not clear, goal to displace resonances above 20 Hz STATUS: Design & simulation done, Delivering on site 03/07, Mounted on SAFE SAT 3 – Monolithic Legs

SAT 5 – Filter Zero STATUS: Cross-checked simulation available (Ruggi & Passaquieti). First result on March to displace resonances at high frequency. First contacts with MSC – Vertical Damping (Vincenzo-Roberto) SPECS:To be defined. In the meanwhile goals 1) How to displace internal resonance over 20 Hz, 2) Conceptual way for a pre-isolator. SCENARIO: If we do not need, just a picture of what we have to do If we need to displace resonance  prototype and tests If we need a pre-isolator stage  Serious new R&D will start. SAT 4 – Accelerometers STATUS: Measurement plan ready – Start in March – Noise budget in May 08 R&D Naples-Salerno goes on indipendently (comparisons). SPECS:To be defined (Strong Interaction with MSC) SCENARIO: After the budget and specs fix plan (12/08). If present acc.are enough no problem, otherwise implement improvements keeping eyes on Naples-Salerno R&D.

SCENARIO: VIRGO + in action, Commissioning will drive improvements Other tasks: HP supply for piezos, Tiltmeters, Acc Boards. SAT 6 – SUSP ELECTRONICS SPECS: See SAFE Document:- Connected to other item R&D succeed : STATUS: VIRGO+ Upgrading (well known programme)
