Welcome to US History Ms. Rimes

Classroom Expectations O Be on Time and Prepared!! O This illustrates maturity and responsibility O Great habit, that will serve you well in the future! O Respect O Give respect, get respect…very simple and very powerful. Respect yourself and others. O Be involved in Learning O Don’t be a spectator in your life, be involved in all you do. This means listen to instructions and directions the first time.

Course Expectations O US History... will cover a lot of info present. O Don’t worry, we’ll get through it all… O You’ll have to take the STAAR EOC in late April or early May. It’s your last state test (hurrah!) O So it’s important to ask questions, be curious, and you’ll get some pretty cool info that connects the past to the present.

More Stuff O Here are things will will definitely do daily and weekly: O Write- Yes, it is crucial to be able to write well. This is very important for essays and scholarship applications. O Read- Yep, that too! We will be reading on a consistent basis. This is the most important thing to do, especially for the STAAR EOC test! O Homework- Assigned on an as needed basis. When I assign homework, I expect it turned in on time!!! No excuses.

More Stuff, cont’d O Here are things will will definitely do daily and weekly: O Exit tickets/bell ringers:- good practice for writing, review, etc. O Academic vocabulary- You need to know these words-they’ll be on the STAAR EOC O Note taking- I will establish a process for this through Google sites. As soon as my site is up and running, I will share this info with you. Until then, we can take notes the old-fashioned way. O Technology- We will be using iPads in class to do work. I will have procedures for that when we receive them. O We will review my syllabus now, it contains all you need to know about the class.

More Stuff, cont’d O From today until this Thursday, please find the place YOU want to sit. On Friday, I will assign a seating chart. O So, get here early, make your choice before Friday! O DO NOT BE TARDY! It’s a major pain, and you miss a lot of important information at the start of class.
