André Courrèges was born in France He studied civil engineering before pursuing a career in fashion In 1945 at age 25 went to Paris to work at a fashion design house Becomes assistant to Cristobal Balenciaga, the renowned Spanish designer, throughout the fifties Created his own fashion house for haute couture in 1961 Courrèges was influenced by modern architecture, technology, new fabrics, and modernism and futurism in art and design Becomes a designer known for his ultra-modern designs 1964 Collection ultimately secures Courrèges the title’Designer of the Space Age’ British Vogue declared 1964 “the year of Courrèges” Designs sportswear for the 1972 Munich Olympics
