ICHPER  SD Journal of Research Writers’ Workshop Steven C. Wright, Ed.D. Kinesiology Pedagogy Coordinator University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH USA Phone: (603) Fax: (603) Editor - ICHPER  SD Journal of Research 1 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress

Content Questions Does the manuscript make a significant and novel contribution to the field? Is this manuscript characterized by original thinking? Is the content timely and useful to the reader? 2 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress

Content Questions Does this manuscript report specific, identifiable, advancement in knowledge? Is the subject new or old, and is the treatment new or old? Are conclusions justified, soundly based, and logically consistent with the support data? Is the content theoretically sound? Have there been major omissions in content? Are the procedures and methods employed sufficiently clear that the work could be replicated? Is the information to prior work pertinent, cited in the body of the paper, and complete? Is the paper relevant? Does the manuscript have any practical information or use? 3 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress

Presentation Questions Is the manuscript presented in a logical manner? Is the manuscript readable? Is the subject appropriate for the journal’s audience? Does the manuscript conform to APA 6 th edition style? Is there an abstract and is it descriptive of the contents? Is there an introduction that states the purpose of the manuscript? Does the development of the central idea flow well? Is the content appropriately organized and subdivided? Is there unnecessary repetition? 4 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress

Presentation Questions Is the title descriptive of the contents? Have technical terms been defined? Are all the figures and tables relevant and properly prepared? Do the tables, diagrams, and figures add to, rather than duplicate, information in the narrative? Is the manuscript excessively long or short (15-28 pgs double spaced)? 5 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress

Presentation Questions Is the literature review complete and accurate? Is the conclusion logical, complete, and clearly stated? Are the references appropriate, current, and accurate? Are there obvious omissions or errors in the reference list? 6 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress

The 10 Most Common Reasons for Rejection of a Manuscript The quality of writing is poor. It offers no new insights or information. It is over-documented to the extent that references hinder the flow of reading. The topic is too narrow in scope. It is largely a promotional piece for a person, place or product. It is a review of information available in other publications. The content would not be of interest to HPERD professionals. It includes information that is inaccurate or outdated. It is not research-based. 7 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress

ICHPER  SD Journal of Research Review Process Author submits manuscript to ICHPER  SD, via or mail. ICHPER  SD will confirm that main author is a member and then send manuscript to the editor. Editor will send the manuscript out for review, with a request to return the manuscript within 30 days. Once reviewers have sent in reviews, the editor will contact the main author with the decision and reviewers’ comments. If the decision is to re-submit, then the editor will determine if sufficient changes have occurred for the manuscript to be published. 8 53rd ICHPER-SD World Congress
