Culture Champion Meeting: May 2013 SCRIPT “Good Morning (Afternoon).” TIME 1 minute

Agenda AGENDA June Learning Moment: Communication – Expressing Yourself & Responding to Others Attendance Retreat Updates Insight Coaching Stump the Facilitator

Learning Moment: Communication – Expressing Yourself & Responding to Others June 2013 SCRIPT “Good Morning (Afternoon). I am here to deliver our learning moment. The topic is Communication – Expressing Yourself & Responding to Others”. TIME 1 minute

Communication is evolving and so is self-expression.

Reflection… How well do you express yourself at work? How often do you listen for understanding and curiosity? How can we continue to improve in this area?

Effective Communication Tips: Be clear within yourself as to what you want to say Self-Reflect Be Here Now Acknowledge Reality Describe the situation how you see it Ask others about their thoughts or reasoning Seek first to understand than to be understood. Curiosity Less Is More Speak Clearly & Concisely Describe rather than diagnose Clarify your thoughts Communicate Your Needs SCRIPT: “Here are some steps to follow to better communicate and express yourself… Be Here Now for yourself. Think before you speak. The first step is to be clear within yourself as to what you want to say. Self-reflect. Describe how YOU see the current situation and acknowledge reality. Be curious with others about their thoughts or reasoning. Speak clearly and concisely. Remember “less is more”. When we keep on talking we often start to make excuses, contradict ourselves, and give others lots of ammunition for arguing with us about our opinions. Communicate your needs without excuses or disclaimers at the beginning, such as “well, this may not really be important” or “I may be making a big deal out of nothing”. Clarify your thoughts. Time Estimate: 1-2 Minutes

Building A Better CHLA Together For June, here’s our Call to Action: Be thoughtful of how you communicate and remain curious with others. Effective communication is very important and it is a skill that requires practice. SCRIPT ““Why does this matter? Because we achieve our best TOGETHER.” - Emphasize the together part. “Here’s our Call to Action for May- Be thoughtful of how you express yourself and follow the tips provided. Effective communication is crucial at every level of an organization. However, the ability to communicate effectively does not come easily, and it is a skill that requires practice. TIME ESTIMATE 30 seconds

"Regardless of the changes in technology, the market for well-crafted messages will always have an audience." — Steve Burnett Thank You
