How do you focus? Learning styles Know how you learn Combine How and Why and What you learn Be aware of the time and environment where you learn best Apply various learning activities to meet your needs Utilize all your senses in learning something Apply how you learn to all new situations Be flexible in your thinking and learning Intentionally decide which learning modality to use Analyze your teacher’s teaching style and apply appropriate learning strategies Creatively adapt materials to best fit your personal learning strengths.

What is your learning style? You learn through three basic modalities which use your senses. Visual (seeing) Auditory (hearing) Kinesthetic (feeling and doing) *It is important to learn how you presently take in and process information.

Visual Characteristics Mind sometimes strays during verbal activities Observes rather than talks or acts Likes to read Organized in approach to tasks Usually a good speller Memorizes by seeing Remember faces Quiet by nature Uses advanced planning Doodles Notices details Has good handwriting Finds verbal instruction difficult

Auditory Characteristics Talks to self aloud Enjoys talking Easily distracted Has more difficulty with written directions Likes to be read to Enjoys music Whispers to self while reading Remembers faces Hums or sings Outgoing in nature Enjoys listening activities Easily distracted by noises

Kinesthetic Characteristics Likes physical rewards In motion most of the time Likes to touch people when talking to them Taps pencil or foot while studying Enjoys doing activities Reading is not a priority Poor speller Likes to solve problems by physically working through them Will try new things Uses hands while talking Dresses for comfort
