Definition mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems.

Symptoms Having feelings of worthlessness or guilt. Lack of concentration Fatique or loss of energy Significant Weight loss or gain Feeling slowed down Lack of interest or pleasure in almost all activites

Causes Affects over 6.7% of US population over the age of 18 May be caused by: Social isolation or feelings of being derived Major life changes such as Moving, job change, Retirement Relationship conflicts Physical, sexual or emotional abuse Women are biologically more at risk than men to suffer form major depression.

Treatment Treated with antidepressants depending on severity of depression. Talk therapy Electroconvulsive therapy
