Answer the following in your notebook:  What type of pressure systems produce hurricanes, tornadoes, and winter weather storms?  What things do hurricanes need to form?  What do tornadoes need to form?

6 types  Satellite  Radar  Precipitation  Temperature  Wind speed  Front

Crucial to detecting and tracking intense storms over the land and oceans such as hurricanes. Meteorologists also determine cloud heights and thickness

 Weather Forecasts, Doppler Radar Reports and Weather Maps from CNN.com Weather Forecasts, Doppler Radar Reports and Weather Maps from CNN.com Works by sending out a beam of energy, measuring how much of that beam is reflected back, and time needed for the beam to return. Objects that reflect the beam back to the radar include rain, snow, sleet and even insects. Television stations usually describe their radars as "Doppler"

Indicates the type of precipitation that is falling in a certain location

Shows the temperature on a map. Can indicate the temperature following behind a front

Indicates the current wind conditions at a particular location. Can indicate change in weather conditions or storm

-Combines radar image with a surface map --- -Shows locations of areas of high and low air pressure -locations of weather fronts.

 A station model is a symbolic illustration showing the weather occurring at a given reporting station.

 Weather observations for a station as plotted on a chart. It includes:  the wind velocity  temperature  Visibility  total cloud amount  cloud types and their height  dew point  barometric pressure and its tendency  weather in the last six hours  and time of the commencement of the precipitation and its amount.

 When you have completed your class assignment, then start on your homework assignment.  It is due Next class period No Exceptions!!

 Design your own front map. Put whatever front you want wherever you want it on the map.  Write a script for a weather forecast that goes with your map.  The map is to be completed and put into your folder  Homework: Start on the Weather Station worksheet
